Ray Ortega from ThePodCastersStudio does a great job comparing our AspenMics HQ-M Mono to our HQ-S Stereo lavalier microphone. He had them both plugged into his Canon 60D with the same audio levels so you can hear for yourself the difference in sound.
For both microphones, you should hear the same quality coming from them. The difference being that the HQ-M mono lav would require less preamp from either your camera or recorder and would only produce audio from the left channel. While the HQ-S stereo lav would require a bit more preamp, and would record from both left and right audio channels.
From the video you should hear that the HQ-M mono lapel microphone sounding a bit louder than the HQ-S stereo lav, but make sure to check it out the video to judge for yourself.

Here is a great review of our AspenMics HQ-M Mono Lavalier Microphone by YouTube reviewer TheFrugalFilmmaker. He compares our lav with his current Radio Shack mic and also giving you some audio samples so you can be the judge as to which one is better.
Our HQ-M Mono Lavalier Microphone can work with a variety of DSLR, mirrorless cameras, and audio recorders that is able to give the microphone power or plug-in power. We also have a bundle that allows our stereo lav to work with any iOS or Android smart devices.
If you are getting some unwanted noise from the person you have laved up then you might want to try adding a broadcast or newsman's loop to your lav.
When your subject is moving around, vibrations from the movement can travel through the lavalier microphone and translate into unwanted noise in your audio. Pulling on the lav mic can also create the same problem or unwanted noise.
By using a broadcast, or newsman's, loop you are able to diffuse the vibrations before the sound can get to the lav mic. You can break up the vibrations even more by creating a loose second loop on your subject. These loops also help keep the microphone stationary when the lav mic is accidentally tugged or pulled on.
Make sure to check out all of our great lavalier microphones that you can test this loop on! CLICK HERE>>

Our HQ-SPK can be used with various iOS devices, Android devices, and some computers with TRRS inputs. Without the adapter, you can also use just our stereo lav for various audio recorders or DSLR cameras that supply plug-in power to the 3.5mm input.
YouTube reviewer Craig Shipp was kind enough to take a look at some of our AspenMics lav microphones. Most of us have some AA, AAA, or even some 9V batteries laying around especially if you use them for some of your audio or camera equipment. Our new 9v and AA/AAA clear protective hard case is a great way to organize all of your batteries together so they don't get lost or mixed up.
You can have some cases marked as new and the others marked as used so you can have them separated and not rolling around in a bag. The same can also be applied to rechargeable batteries or use some sort of marker to indicate if the batteries are used or new/charged such as what CheesyCam did in the video above. Some people also suggest having the batteries placed in a certain direction such as positive side up, indicating that they are new/charged. However you like to organize your used and new batteries these hard cases will definitely help.
Having 9V batteries in a protective case is also very important. Since the positive and negative terminals are close together, common items such as keys or coins can short across the terminals causing a fire. If they are not properly placed in a case, always make sure to cover these terminals with some tape or a 9V cap.
You can find more information on these battery cases by Clicking Here >>
When you connect an AspenMics Lav directly into your camera's microphone input, then there's no need to sync audio in post. Without having to invest in expensive wireless audio systems, you can easily add distance between the camera and your subject by using a 3.5mm Stereo Extension cable with an AspenMics HQ-S Lav.
Make sure you're using a decent quality extension cable so that you maintain the best quality. We can suggest this great looking 12' Foot Premium Audio Extension Cable with a braided exterior and gold colored tips that we've tested with our AspenMics HQ-S Lav Mics.

CheesyCam showed off a cool new iPhone application, called AirLinc, which enables you to use your phone as a wireless lavalier microphone system.
By using this app you can set one phone as the microphone and the other as a receiver. The receiver can monitor the audio, control the gain, and start and stop recording. Both phones need to be connected to the same WiFi or Hotspot in order for the app to work properly.
Of course you would need a lavalier microphone that is compatible with your phone such as our AspenMics HQ-SPK Stereo Lav Mic.

Rik Cordero from RunPlayBack had the opportunity to shoot in the Dominican Republic a few months ago for a non-profit organization called Project Picture Day. Project Picture Day provides school pictures for children in low income and under developing countries.
While Rik was shooting overseas he needed a light and quick setup that he can travel with. In the video above, Rik used our Aspen HQ-S Stereo Lav Mic paired with the Zoom H1 Recorder to capture his audio. This setup was quick, portable, and easy enough to be kept either in a backpack or pocket.
Our lavalier microphones work with a variety of audio recorders and DSLR cameras, capturing audio in either stereo (with our HQ-S) or mono (with our HQ-M). For more information on all our lavalier microphones check out our product listings by Clicking Here>>
Rik has been a great help to us, using our microphones in some of his great film work.
"Everyone should ideally have a wireless audio system as part of their kit, but for quick, run and gun situations, I like to use the affordable AspenMic HQ-S Stereo Lav Mic paired with a Zoom H1 that’s placed with the talent. This is the easiest and most straightforward way to record audio during interviews."

Here is a great video done by Pete Alexander testing out our AspenMics HQ-S and HQ-SPK Stereo Lav Mic. Pete has one of our microphones recording to his Samsung Note 4 using the Rec Forge II recording app and another is connected to his Zoom H4n portable recorder. He compares the recordings to the Sony A7s internal microphone.
You can easily tell the difference between using a dedicated audio recorder with high end preamps from the Zoom H4n compared to the recordings on the Samsung Note 4. Still, if you plan to use a smart phone it's possible to EQ the recordings and add a bit of high end frequency in post. Check out the video above and listen for the difference!
